Facebook hits 350 million users

Facebook has just reached 350 million users in December 2009, and will be soon making some changes to serve the Facebook community better.

In an open letter from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg to all Facebook users, Mark Zuckerberg revealed the upcoming changes to Facebook. The changes to the website will include removing the current regional networks. It is said that some regional networks are overloaded with members, and users of the particular network will share their information with all other users in the same network. For example, if I am in “Malaysia” network, and I allow my profile to be viewed by “Only Friends and Network”, my friends and EVERYONE in “Malaysia” network can see my information. No wonder Facebook wants to remove the regional networks. Continue reading »

Microsoft and News Corp, Google out

The traditional newspaper and media companies are feeling the threat of Internet and its distribution rate. The Internet has left many printers to find ways to make profit of their contents, which unfortunately, is available online for free. However, these companies are trying to restructure their business models to go in line with the web, some ventures into social media, and Rupert Murdoch opted to remove News Corp from Google. News Corp’s newspapers include the Times of London, The Sun, Wall Street Journal and the New York Post.

Internet service in Malaysia

A bold title in Wednesday’s newspaper today caught my attention.

“1 million wired for high-speed internet”

(Note: It is “high-speed”)

It seems like Malaysia government has finally hear the anguish of Malaysians on the speed of Internet connection in Malaysia. Before the birth of broadband in Malaysia, most of us will open multiple windows to load webpages. Meanwhile, when waiting for the webpages to load, we will do other things, such as make ourselves a cup of Milo, grab some cream crackers, and come back just in time to see ONLY one webpage just finished download.

Twitter: 5 billion tweets

Twitter has begun to gain its popularity in Malaysia since last year. Twitter passed the one billion tweet mark back in November of last year.  Up to date, number of tweet has quintupled in less than 1 year time. According to Gigatweet, Twitter has now passed the 5 billion tweet mark.
