Brilliant Facebook Campaign – IKEA

Running a Facebook campaign is not just about setting up a Facebook page for your business, and then leaves it automated. Many big brands are implementing social media as a direct mechanism to connect with customers. It is always easier said than done, and there are many things to consider and to be done when running a Facebook campaign.

The IKEA’s recent Facebook campaign does attract a lot of attention. It is carried out to promote a new opened IKEA store in Malmo, a Swedish town. Instead of spreading the launching news in the traditional way, IKEA implement the popular social media, Facebook into its launching campaign.

A Facebook profile is created for the store manager, Gordon Gustavsson and 12 pictures of IKEA showrooms were uploaded into his Facebook photo album. The concept was very simple, and used the most basic feature of Facebook – photo tagging.

The person that tagged their name on a product first, won it.

Facebook users start to demand for more IKEA pictures. Swedes want more pictures so that they can tag themselves to a new shelf, a new vase, a new sofa, a new bed frame, or a new mirror which they can hang on their bathroom wall.

The pictures and campaign spreads to thousand of people via profile pages, news feed and links. Instead of outbound marketing, IKEA is getting people to personally promote IKEA. People gladly participate in IKEA’s campaign, and spread the news to their friends simply by using Facebook’s existing and basic function.
