1Malaysia F1 Team

September 23rd, 2009

Last week, our Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Najib Abdul Razak made an exciting announcement – Malaysia has our own ‘Made in Malaysia’ team in Formula One. The racing team, named as 1Malaysia FI Team will participate in the prestigious FIA Formula One world championship next year.

The 1Malaysia F1 team will be a partnership between the Government and the private sector, including investors led by Datuk Kamarudin Meranun (AirAsia Deputy CEO), Datuk Seri Tony Fernandes (AirAsia CEO) and SM Nasaruddin SM Nasimuddin (Naza Group CEO).

Our Lotus-powered racing team will be racing together with giants like Ferrari, McLaren-Mercedes and Renault. The formation of this team will also mark the return of Proton-owned Lotus, the prestigious constructors who left F1 in 1994. The team will have a Malaysian technical and pit crew, totaling some 200 people, to be managed by former Renault technical director Mike Gascoyne.

The formation of our own racing team will definitely raise our country’s profile on the world stage, as our team will be the first to be located outside Europe. How many Malaysians will support our own team of F1? Or we would prefer to support international racers from Ferrari or McLaren-Mercedes team? Are we patriotic enough to support our own Malaysian team, and ‘abandon’ the existing teams we supported previously?

Anyway, let us see own team perform next year! Meanwhile, sit tight and get ready for the speed. Malaysia is making herself visible to the world, but how about your business? Is your business visible to those who want to find you? Are you ready to become your own F1 team and accept the challenges of online marketing? Time to look for professionals to execute your online marketing campaigns for better return on investment.
